As you are aware the the White Paper on English Devolution published in mid-December proposes the abolition of two tier councils of which EDDC is one. Councils were given until today to submit proposals for the realisation of the plan. I attach for your information the resolution adopted by the EDDC Council at an emergency meeting last night.
In brief, the Council proposes the formation of two unitaries in Devon, one encompassing North Devon, Mid Devon, East Devon and Teignbridge District Councils as well as Exeter City Council.
The government is determined to drive its reorganisation through during the term of the current parliament and it is likely that EDDC will be abolished around 2027.
I will keep you posted as to the progress of the reorganisation.
