New County Councillor Cathy Connor

My name is Cathy Connor and I’m your new county councillor. I also sit on Mid Devon District Council.

I’m a parent of three teenagers and someone who works closely with local businesses and schools across Devon, I see first-hand both the challenges and opportunities facing young people, families, and employers.
In my role as a work experience visitor, I visit all kinds of businesses to help prepare the ground for students starting their placements. This gives me a unique insight into the skills our young people need and the realities facing local employers. It also strengthens my belief that we need practical, forward-thinking policies that support education, training, transport, and rural opportunity.

Living and working across Devon, I see every day how stretched our public services are. The poor state of the roads is a constant source of frustration — not just for drivers, but for local businesses, public transport, and emergency services too. We also face real challenges in supporting an ageing population with growing social care needs, and making sure our SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) children get the education, resources, and support they deserve. These are issues that need proper investment and joined-up thinking, and I’m committed to speaking up for our area to make sure we don’t get left behind.

I stood as a Liberal Democrat because I believe in fairness, community, and giving people a real say in decisions that affect them. Serving as a county councillor is a chance to bring those values into action and to work for a better, fairer future for everyone in our area.

I will do my very best to attend meetings although I may not be able to attend as often as we might both like because, including district council, I now have 30 parish councils in my wards. I will send a monthly email update though.

Kind Regards
Cllr Cathy Connor
